St. Louis is a densely populated area under the municipality of Greater St. Louis with enormous metropolitan facilities. The wave of urbanization in the city resulted in sprawling of new township and a number of schools, colleges and business centers have opened in the recent past. The city, boasts of various well known educational institutions and the majority of the schooling system is run by the St. Louis Public School District; with 77 schools under their control.
The public schools in St. Louis are diverse in ethnicity. For better execution of the curriculum and to educate the larger portion of the society, the public school has introduced three different schooling systems- Magnet schools, Choice schools and Charter schools. These schooling systems are introduced for controlled enrollment, racial balance and specialized curriculums. Brentwood School District, Hazelwood School District, Affton School District 101 and St Louis County School are the smaller school districts located throughout the city.
Although the private schools are expensive than the public schools, they are known to have better infrastructure and lay more stress in the overall development of their students. St. Louis County School District is way ahead in the run of private schools than its counterpart. The private schools in the country are both secular and religiously affiliated. Abundant private schools focus on the community and family involvement. Extra curricular activities like music, sports, dance, swimming, horse riding, etc are also compulsory part of their annual curriculum.
Number of teaching stuffs is more in private schools and has more control on the curriculum. Since there is no interference of the government the infrastructure is smaller and has much of a homely atmosphere. Whitfield School, New City School, St. Louis University High School, Holy Redeemer School, Our Lady of the Pillar and St. Peters are renowned private schools in St. Louis.
